Wilten were delighted to host LEBC and 20 year 10 students on Wednesday 10th July. The visit provided the students with an insight into the different career pathways and opportunities available within the construction industry.
The aims of the visit were to:
Give the students an insight into the construction industry and what a construction project looks like in the real world, rather than in a classroom setting
Discuss the various roles available within the industry, both on and offsite
Show the students how one of our sites operates
For the site visit to take place safely and provide the students with an interactive experience, we split the students into two groups.
Whilst one group was on a site tour with our Site Manager and Engineer, the other group remained in our site accommodation and engaged in a presentation delivered by our Proposals and Marketing Director and Senior Project Manager, covering:
How Wilten’s sites operate safely, sustainably, and considerately
An introduction to Wilten including our people and experience
The design and construction process explained using a video of our recently completed project, Pioneer Park, which the students enjoyed watching!
Entry routes into the industry and our commitment to apprenticeships and local recruitment
Q&A with the students covering the initial tender process, sustainability, and design and construction
Our aims were to broaden their understanding of construction and the variety of careers available in our field of work, whilst enabling them to learn about works progressing on site including cladding, blockwork, and mechanical and electrical works.
We are proud to be strengthening our connection with the local community and delivering social value for Leicester through engagement with schools and colleges, skills development, and local employment.
We look forward to continuing to do so on Ian Marlow and in the future.
We are excited to work with LEBC in the future and provide work experience opportunities for students who attended!
