Wilten Construction were appointed as Main Contractor by VentURe properties for the Design & Build of a New Commercial Development for Network Rail at Marlborough Drive, Fleckney.
Wilten are honoured to announce that we have reached the final for the ProCon Leicestershire Property & Construction Awards 2023 for the second year running! This year our recently completed development at Marlborough Drive Fleckney has been chosen in the Medium Non-Residential Category for the Scheme of the Year 2023!
The ProCon Leicestershire Awards are the county's biggest celebration of the built environment and the people who develop, design and construct winning developments.
The purpose of this scheme was the development of a new regional distribution centre for Network Rail incorporating a New Commercial Development, Workshop and Office Fit Out. We were engaged early by Venture in the pre-planning period to use our vast experience in developing the site earthworks strategy and to optimise external levels and drainage. Also, to assist in writing the development specification for the project to industry benchmarks.

The Site is situated at the Land off Marlborough Drive, Fleckney, Leicestershire.
The development comprises of the Design and construction of one single storey warehouse, with 2 storey offices attached, together with associated parking, service yards drainage and attenuation feature, landscaping, and incoming services (water & electricity) totalling 11,807 sqft. The project was delivered with a 34 week build programme to full turnkey construction, complete with a workshop and high office content.
This project was Phase 1 of the masterplan with a further 40,000 sqft of lightweight industrial units to be constructed under Phase 2. The estate access road had to be completed under Phase 1 works and the drainage and earthworks designed to optimise both phases of the scheme.
The creative approach required careful consideration of its surroundings, with close proximity to local residents and businesses, and close collaboration with the local planning authorities and residents was required to provide a development sympathetic to their needs and desired outcomes.
